Deuces Wild Strategy

OPTIMAL PLAY BY DEUCE COUNT — 100.76% RTP (FULL PAY)

Deuces Wild is fundamentally different from Jacks or Better. With all four 2s acting as wild cards, the minimum paying hand becomes Three of a Kind, single high cards lose their value, and the strategy tree branches by how many deuces you are dealt. The full-pay version returns an extraordinary 100.76% with perfect play — one of the only positive-expectation games in any casino. This deuces wild strategy guide organizes optimal play by deuce count for quick reference during gameplay.

Deuces Wild Strategy — Four Deuces

Frequency: Once every 4,909 hands (0.02%)

When dealt all four deuces, hold them all. Four Deuces pays 200 coins (1,000 at max bet). No possible draw can improve this hand. The fifth card is irrelevant — hold all five and collect.

Note: Four Deuces is the third-highest hand in Deuces Wild (behind Natural Royal and Four Deuces + Royal kicker on some pay tables). There is never a reason to break this hand.

Deuces Wild Strategy — Three Deuces

Frequency: Once every 47 hands (2.1%)

With three deuces, you already have a guaranteed Three of a Kind or better. The only question is whether the remaining two cards improve the hand enough to hold.

1Wild Royal Flush (3 deuces + 2 Royal cards suited)All 525.00
2Five of a KindAll 515.00
3All other hands3 deuces only, draw 215.06

Key rule: Never break three deuces to draw to anything less than a made Wild Royal. Hold all three deuces and draw two. Even a made Four of a Kind with three wilds should just hold the three deuces, because the chance of improving to Five of a Kind or Four Deuces on the draw makes it mathematically correct.

Deuces Wild Strategy — Two Deuces

Frequency: Once every 8 hands (12.7%)

Two deuces appear frequently enough that mastering this section alone significantly impacts your long-term return. The deuces wild strategy for two wilds is more nuanced than three or four.

64 to a Wild Royal (2 deuces + 2 suited Royal cards)4 cards, draw 127.26
7All other hands2 deuces only, draw 34.87
Critical Rule: With two deuces and nothing from rows 1–6, hold ONLY the two deuces and draw three. Do not hold a third card “for insurance.” Drawing three maximizes your chance of Four Deuces, Five of a Kind, and Wild Royal.

Deuces Wild Strategy — One Deuce

Frequency: Once every 3 hands (33.0%)

One deuce is the most complex scenario because there are many borderline decisions. This is where mastering deuces wild strategy truly pays off.

Important: If nothing in rows 1–15 applies, hold only the deuce and draw four cards. Do NOT hold high cards alongside the deuce — they have no premium value in Deuces Wild.

Deuces Wild Strategy — No Deuces

Frequency: Every other hand (52.2%)

With no wild cards, strategy resembles Jacks or Better with one critical difference: single high cards have no value because the minimum paying hand is Three of a Kind. A lone Ace is worth no more than a lone 5.
