Joker Poker variants add one or two joker cards to the standard 52-card deck, creating a 53 or 54-card game. The joker acts as a wild card that can substitute for any other card to complete the best possible hand. This creates an interesting middle ground between classic games (no wilds) and Deuces Wild (four wilds).
Joker Poker (Kings or Better) is the primary variant. The single joker and 53-card deck create a game with full-pay RTP of 100.64% — better than Jacks or Better and competitive with Deuces Wild. The minimum qualifying hand is kings or better (a pair of kings or higher), reflecting the slight advantage the joker provides.
Joker Poker Aces raises the minimum to aces or better, creating a more volatile game. Double Joker Poker adds a second wild card to the deck, significantly increasing hand frequencies and requiring an adjusted pay table to maintain balance.
With only one wild card in the deck (compared to four in Deuces Wild), Joker Poker strategy is closer to classic games but with important modifications. When dealt the joker, you are guaranteed at least a pair of kings — the decision becomes how aggressively to pursue higher hands.
Without the joker, strategy resembles Kings or Better with adjusted break-even points. The 53-card deck slightly reduces the probability of completing draws (one extra card in the deck), which affects marginal hold decisions.
Key strategic differences from classic games: two pair is less valuable because the joker can easily create three of a kind, and flush draws are slightly weaker due to the larger deck. The joker also creates a unique hand — "five of a kind" — which is impossible in standard poker.
